Our program is shaping up quite nicely, although inflation in India has been pretty steep, increasing the costs of our program. One of the highlights for me will be returning to the Andaman Islands, and this time we will work closely with the Andaman and Nicobar Environmental Team (ANET). They have prepared an intensive two-day program for us that includes social, cultural, and ecological contextualization of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, lectures on and field trips to mangroves, fish markets, intertidal zones, and coastal marine habitats.
Shortly after that we’ll be all the way on the other side of India, in the Western Ghats, where we’ll be introduced to different forest types in Valparai Hill Station, tour a tea plantation, visit the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology, tour Ghandigram Rural University, and experience forest safaris in Mudumulai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary (also a tiger reserve).
